Therapy for neurodivergent & LGBTQ+ young people (ages 10-20) who have trouble managing their emotions
Therapy that builds on strengths to support your child to manage life’s challenges and make better choices
Keeping up with your kid’s emotions has worn you down. You’re stressing that they won’t be able to overcome life’s hurdles in the future, like school and career goals and personal relationships, because they’re regularly losing control over minor annoyances, such as unexpected plan changes or misplacing stuff. Even conversations about why they’re losing control over their emotions lead them to lose control of emotions, so now you’re ready to find neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ affirming therapy in Cherry Hill so your child can get out of this cycle.
You’re eager for them to learn better ways of handling frustration, but you also want them to have space to safely explore their identity as neurodivergent and queer. They’re at an age when they’re vulnerable to shame and anger about who they are, and managing strong emotions will require confidence in themselves and their ability to handle the tough stuff.
Your child can bounce back from disappointment, ask for help sooner, and have more time for activities, and you can enjoy time with your kid, and still have time to watch that show after they go to bed because you didn’t spend the evening in crisis mode.
I’m committed to being a therapist both you and your child trusts, with the right combination of personal experience and professional expertise, who can help you and your child turn the corner that’s felt just out of reach.

Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy
In neurodivergent-affirming therapy, neurodiversity is understood as naturally occurring variations in brain function for the benefit of all, similar to the how people are different heights or vocal range. Neurodivergence doesn’t need to be “treated” in the same way that therapists treat depression or anxiety.
Neurodivergent people can have a range of strengths, like creativity or pattern recognition. Neurodivergence can also be disabling at times, such as an ADHDer who is frustrated by forgetfulness. The disabling nature of neurodivergence is often due to pressure to meet neurotypical standards. In affirming therapy, we consider both strengths and challenges.
In our society, being neurotypical has been the standard, so neurodivergence has been considered “different,” “less than,” and something that needed to be “fixed.” Neurodivergent people have been subjected to mistreated in society and specifically by mental health professions. Bias and mistreatment still occur, so affirming therapy is a positive alternative.
As a neuro-affirming therapist who is neurodivergent, I help people make the most of their strengths and build a positive identity. I recognize challenges of being neurodivergent, such as overwhelming emotions and exhaustion from masking or trying to appear neurotypical.
Depending on your child’s needs and developmental level, affirming therapy can include consideration for societal barriers for neurodivergent people, and the value of disability advocacy and community.
Queer-Affirming Therapy
Your child will be supported, no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity, no matter if they’re out or not, no matter if they feel confident about who they are or are still trying to figure it out.
Queer-affirming therapy takes a positive view of being LGBTQ+, recognizing the benefits and joys of being queer, while exploring the impact and challenges of being authentic when faced with homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism.
At Prism Art Therapy, your kid will:
- Have time and space to figure out who they are without judgment or assumptions
